What an amazing first episode! It has everything you should expect from Star Trek. It's fun, sometimes silly, and wonderfully acted. The story is classic Trek. First contact situation goes awry and the Enterprise has to pull off a rescue. Anson Mount is absolutely fabulous as Pike, yet again. Ethan Peck's Spock really feels like he is really channeling Nimoy now. Number One is wonderful - as we knew she would be. Uhura and Chapel are simply terrific. The new crew members already seem like old friends. Ortegas is already my favorite, M'Benga seems like a guy you'd just want to be around, and Singh is wonderfully flawed. This is what Trek is supposed to be: positive, hopeful, thoughtful, glorious.

Easily another out of the park home run. The interplay between the crew members is already making me feel like part of the crew. The story is classic Trek and the use of Uhura as the main focal point this episode is very well done. My main love of this episode....beam phasers are back!

Another absolutely terrific episode. The interplay between crew members is really making the show feel special....One of the things that makes the classic shows so fun to watch. Aiming focus at Una this time, we are given her backstory, as well as adding some depth to Doctor M'Benga.

A real thriller of an episode! Every character has a moment in this one. The cast is putting together a great level of chemistry, and I'm already feeling like an honorary crew member. Memento Mori hearkens back to Wrath of Khan, Arena, and Balance of Terror with a nice touch of World War Two submarine movies in the mix - something very near and dear to my heart. Just terrific from start to finish.

A rather hilarious romp during shore leave lifts this one close to the top of the heap after the perilous prior episode. A fun body-switching plot, sticks in the mud learning to live a little, and some great moments with Captain Pike and Spock make this one a lot of fun.

This one really feels like a TOS or TNG episode. Success feels like failure here in a rather painful way. The overall tone of the episode seems light at first and ends up much darker than anticipated. Well written and acted, as the entire series has been so far.

One of my favorites this season, for sure. Showcasing Spock's inner battle with his human half and some classic-style Trek comedy really makes this episode special. Pike's actions remind me of Kirk creating Fizzbin out of thin air in "A Piece of the Action". Nurse Chapel continues to shine and Ortegas' banter with the Captain is wonderful. Overall, a really fun episode.

Another terrific episode. Amazing and hilarious acting by everyone. I only have two gripes and they cost the episode a half-pip. One - give us some info about strange anomalies or something before everything goes poof. Two - this almost felt like the writers were forcing a way to solve M'Benga's problem. All in all still a great episode and I hope we see more of Rukiya in future episodes.

Another worthy entry into what has become arguably the best first season of any Star Trek show. This episode is clearly an homage to Aliens and Alien 3. My negatives this round - The changes to the Gorn species are significant, Spock continues to open his emotional Pandora's Box, and Sam Kirk shows that he is really not suited for Starfleet or his chosen profession. The episode is still loads of fun with a very touching finale. The only thing I really docked points for here is the continued criminal under use of Ortegas and Una.

Well, they saved the best for last. The final episode of what has been a terrific first season is, without question, epic. A total WHAT IF? episode that shows the classic, Balance of Terror, from a different perspective. Fantastic all around acting with some nice little cameos - including just the arm and voice of one iconic TOS character. This one had me in tears several times. Heck, even the music cues were perfect. Overall, an instant classic.
