The Enterprise has entered orbit above a planet. You are a lieutenant recently assigned to the Enterprise science section. The lateral sensor array is malfunctioning, so the class of the planet cannot be determined through scans. You have been tasked with scanning the planet, selecting the planet class, and reporting your findings to Captain Picard. Perform the various scans below, review the information provided, make your selection, and then report to the captain.
Sufficiently massive to become a red dwarf star if deuterium ignites nuclear fusion within the core, creating a binary star system.
ASSIGN A PLANETARY CLASS
PLANETARY CLASSES
Class D: An uninhabitable planetoid, moon, or small planet with little to no atmosphere. Some are viable candidates for terraforming.
Class H: Generally uninhabitable for Humans, though viable for Sheliak and other lifeforms not affected by hyperonic radiation.
Class J: A type of gas giant with diameters between 31,000 and 87,000 miles.
Class K: While uninhabitable these planets are adaptable for Humans by use of artificial biospheres.
Class L: Marginally habitable, with vegetation but usually no animal life.
Class M: Earth-like, with atmospheres containing oxygen and, typically, nucleogenic particles. Largely habitable for humanoid life forms.
Class T: A type of gas giant classified as a "large ultragiant", 31,000,000 to 74,000,00 miles in diameter, with an age of two to ten billion years. Due to their size, Class T planets are prone to becoming red dwarf stars under certain conditions.
Class Y ("Demon"): A world with a toxic atmosphere and surface temperatures exceeding 500 Kelvin. Prone to thermionic radiation discharges.
