Jack's Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Okay, this one is easily the weakest of the Original Series films. I should point out that this is not in any way because of William Shatner's directing. The story is rough around the edges. Laurence Luckinbill is slightly off-putting with his performance - so much so that we forget he is Vulcan. The special effects are sub-par because ILM was busy and Shatner had to resort to a second-rate effects house. What we do get that is positive is interplay between the main cast members that is second to none. The camping scenes with Kirk, McCoy and Spock are some of the best in any Trek film or episode, Scotty and Uhura are fantastic, Chekov and Sulu are hilarious....Just so much fun. Honestly, I enjoy this film, even with its flaws, more than all of the modern films combined.
